A couple of weeks ago I shared this mood board for a little powder room refresh that I was planning. We actually updated our first floor bathroom a few years ago when we bought our house, but I never truly loved it, and as you all know I get bored easily, so I was ready to make some changes. With the vanity, fixtures, and flooring all already in place, I knew it wouldn’t take much to give this tiny space a makeover, so I got to work on what I was envisioning. Creating an inspiration board is my favorite way to put a bunch of design elements together so that I can see if they work well before I execute things. I really liked the feel of this one, so I dove in headfirst!
The starting point for the room was this peel and stick wallpaper. My original plan was to paper the whole room since half of the wall is covered with a board and batten we added when we first started remodeling back in 2017. Full disclosure, peel and stick wallpaper is a total bitch to install, and if anyone tells you differently they are either truly gifted or lying to you! This was not my first time using it, and I still wanted to rip my hair out while installing it. I decided the best plan was to stick with an accent wall in order to maintain my sanity. It’s not perfect if you look closely, but I’m fairly certain that I’m my own worst critic.
Going with just an accent wall meant that I would need to do some painting. The walls were originally a dark bluish-green so I ran to Home Depot with a sample of the wallpaper and did my best to make a match. The color I ended up going with was Riviera Beach by Behr. On a side note, I am also currently in the process of transitioning the trim color in our house from cream to white, so the board and batten and trim you see here got a fresh coat of Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. It should also be noted that this room is nearly impossible to photograph since it gets zero natural light.
Once all of there dirty work was done, it was time to move onto the fun stuff like decorating. I’m going to link everything I can at the bottom of this post, but a few things will require an explanation. The shelf that is hanging on the wall was a great score. I found it on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $7, and used some stain I had at home to make the wood match some of the other decor pieces (I have linked one with a similar look). I could not for the life of me find a piece of artwork like what I had in mind for over the toilet, so I set out to create my own. I knew I wanted a black and white floral image and that I wanted to use a black frame, so I used a graphic from Canva, and uploaded it to be drawn using my Cricut. I love how it turned out, and all it cost me was the price of the frame.
None of these changes were major ones, but I’m really happy with how everything came together. The room feels a lot bigger than it did, and much more cohesive with other rooms in our home!
