Despite the fact that our house has four bedrooms, we’re trying to hold onto our guest bedroom for as long as we possibly can. This means that for the time being, Max and Theo will continue to share a bedroom, and so will Ella and Lilah. The boys have actually shared a room since Theo was born, and it has always worked for us. Usually Theo is asleep before Max goes to bed, but in the rare case that doesn’t happen, they just chat a bit before they both drift off to sleep. It’s actually really sweet. Since this works, we’re sticking with it, but theirs is one of the last rooms in the house we haven’t touched at all since we moved in almost three years ago. Seeing as Theo turned four in April, and he’s still sleeping in a toddler bed (insert palm to forehead emoji here), I’ve decided it’s time to make some moves in this space. The boys have been begging for bunk beds for awhile now, so we’re pulling the trigger and going for it. It was important to me to find a set that looked good as separate beds though. Maybe someday they won’t want bunks anymore, and I suppose we could sell them, but this way they could also work as stand-alone beds.
Since we’re going with bunk beds, there will be one large wall in their room now that will be bare and in need of a little something. I’m thinking about doing 2-3 of the bookcases pictured, side by side, to almost give the look of built-ins. This will serve as a space to display books, Lego creations, and sports memorabilia. I’m planning on painting the walls a pretty blue color (so far I love Admiral Blue by Behr), and we’ve decided to stick with the blue and white rugby striped bedding that is similar to what they have already. As for art work, we’ll be going with some cool large vintage-y sports photos.
As always, things tend to change a little when I’m working from plans to reality, but I always enjoy creating these mood boards so that I can see everything together in one place. I can’t wait to share this space with you guys when it’s completed.
