It might come as a surprise that even with four kids in our house, I still hear the complaint, “I’m bored!” fairly often. Sure they entertain each other and have plenty of stuff to play with, but sometimes with little ones, it just comes with the territory. With summer quickly approaching I’ve been on the hunt for ways to keep them occupied and entertained, and it’s always a huge bonus if I can find an activity or toy that is also educational. Today I’m rounding up some of our boredom busters for kids!
VTech® KidiGo™ Walkie Talkies
These walkie-talkies are so much fun! Your kids can keep in touch anywhere (up to 500 feet away from each other) with these kid-safe, two-way radios that feature a digital connection that’s clear and keeps your kids’ conversations secure, preventing other walkie-talkie users from listening or chatting with them. They can also send each other preset animated images, kind of like text messages, from inside or outside, day or night thanks to the backlit LCD screen. As an added bonus the VTech® walkie-talkies also include four two-player games for real-time gaming between the devices. These walkie-talkies will add a whole new element of excitement to all of your kid’s adventures!

I don’t know if there is a kid out there who doesn’t love Disney music. My kids are basically obsessed. Disney Hits is literally the happiest playlist on earth as it offers up all of your favorite Disney songs in one place, on a regularly updated playlist. It’s available on all music streaming platforms (Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Pandora. My kids love asking Alexa to play Disney Hits on our Echo Dot through Amazon Prime, while they play, eat breakfast, or when they want to have an impromptu dance party. You can download the music HERE on your own platform, and be sure to check out their other playlists such as Disney Lullaby, Disney Piano, and Disney Junior!
If you’re looking for another fun way to keep your kids entertained you can download FREE Disney activity sheets HERE for them to work on while they listen to their favorite Disney hits!
My kids love new books. Especially ones about topics that interest them and are filled with great illustrations. Max has been reading A Child’s Introduction to the Night Sky to Ella and Theo and they’ve all been really into it. This book is the perfect STEM introduction for young readers as it helps to teach them about Astronomy, what astronauts and scientists explore in space, and what they themselves can find by gazing up into the sky at night. With handy definitions and sidebars to engage your kids and develop their interest, this book will keep your children turning the pages. Each copy includes a star finder wheel and glow-in-the-dark stickers that will extend their exploration experiences beyond!
Feeling Through Colors Activity from (Nonprofit) Action For Healthy Kids
Sometimes kids have a tough time expressing their emotions, and right now they are experiencing a wide range of them. Using art and colors in projects with them at home can help kids recognize, identify, and label their feelings, which supports their social emotional health and well-being. Action For Healthy Kids, a nonprofit organization, provided this Feeling Through Colors activity that we did together to explore how my kids are feeling during this time. It was a great way to tap into their creative sides while also helping them to express themselves. You can check out more digital and online resources from Action for Healthy Kids to help battle boredom, support virtual learning, and keep your kids physically and emotionally healthy at home.
