It doesn’t really matter what time of year it is, my kids have always been all about their snacks! That being said, I prefer to have lots of healthy snack options on hand at all times, so that when they are hungry, it’s a no-brainer for them to reach for something nutritious. This is particularly important to me with the start of school coming up in just a few short weeks. I like for them to fuel their bodies and their brains with nutritious foods that will carry them throughout their days at school and during after school activities.
As you can probably imagine weekdays can be pretty hectic around here during the school year, so to save myself the stress of having to prepare lunches every single day of the week, I like to pre-make sandwiches for my big kids on Sundays so that they’re easy to just grab from the fridge for the rest of the week and toss in their lunch boxes. Another way we have simplified things around here is by adding a snack station to our kitchen. For us, this is as simple as loading a basket with lots of healthy snack options within my kid’s reach. For the record, this has totally saved me from having to hear “mom, can I have a snack?” a hundred times a day. Coincidentally, this has also made it easier for my bigger kids to just grab what they want for snack each day and pack it themselves. I’m totally onboard with anything that encourages independence!
I love to stock up on snacks for them for the week ahead by ordering online, because with four kids, this is a total lifesaver. Walmart is perfect for this, and their order pick-up option makes our shopping a breeze. A few of our go-to favorite snacks are Sensible Portions Veggie Straws Variety Packs, Earth’s Best Organic® Sunny Day Snack Bars, and MaraNatha No Stir Almond Butter, which we use for a ton of different stuff. From sandwiches, to homemade energy bites (this is our favorite recipe), to slathering it on apple slices, their almond butter is so good! The plus side to this is that my toddler, Lilah, also loves these snacks, so we always order a big bag of the Sensible Portions Veggie Straws for her too. The strawberry Sunny Day Snack Bars have been a huge hit with her!
I’m including this free printable list of some our favorite healthy snacks to help make your shopping for back to school a little more convenient. Just print it out, stick it on your fridge, and refer to it when you’re creating your weekly grocery list or ordering groceries online!
I would love to hear some of your kid’s favorite snacks if they weren’t mentioned, but I hope these ideas help ease some of your back to school stress. Be sure to check out Walmart for all of your kid’s snacking needs and to stock up on Sensible Portions Veggie Straws, Earth’s Best Organic® Sunny Day Snack Bars, and MaraNatha No Stir Almond Butter!
