School’s out for summer, and if you’re a parent to younger kids like I am, then you’re probably trying to figure out how you’re going to survive the next couple of months while your kiddos are at home. Not to worry, I’ve got you. The following tips might not be hugely groundbreaking, but I promise they’ll help you make it through until you send your adorable children back off to school in the early fall.
1. Take a Deep Breath
I feel like this tip should be a no-brainer, but so often we get caught up in the chaos and forget to just take a deep breath before we react, or when we’re feeling really stressed. Having your kids at home will surely test your patience… when it does, remember to take a deep breath.
2. Take Advantage of Convenient and Easy Meal Options Like Boston Market Lunch
When you have kids with you and you’re in a hurry, convenience is the name of the game, but you shouldn’t have to sacrifice a healthy, quality meal just because you’re in a rush. Boston Market, the rotisserie everything experts, launched a brand new lunch menu on June 1st and we recently had the chance to test the new items. For starters, I need to note the convenience of grabbing lunch at a Boston Market. I was able to order and pay for our food online, pull into a designated parking spot for order pick ups right out front, and was in and out in less than a minute. Above and beyond that, the food was incredible! I had the Southwest Cobb salad and was seriously impressed with how fresh and tasty it was. My husband met us at home for lunch and had the new Chicken Avocado Club and loved it. Boston Market uses the same rotisserie chicken and meats that their customers have come to know and love in their new lunch menu!
Here are the new lunch options that just launched this month:
Southwest Chicken BLT on ciabatta with Cholula bacon, avocado, Tillamook pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and chipotle aioli.
Chicken Avocado Club on ciabatta with bacon, avocado, Tillamook cheddar cheese, lettuce, red onion and herbed mayo.
Chicken or Turkey on ciabatta with smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and herbed mayo.
Chicken Salad on multi-grain hoagie roll with sliced tomato, lettuce, and mayo
Southwest Cobb Salad with romaine and leaf lettuce blend, bacon, avocado, corn relish, pico de gallo, red onion and chipotle ranch dressing.
Caesar Salad with romaine lettuce, 3-cheese blend, croutons and Caesar dressing
I’m totally trying the chicken salad next! So here’s the fun part… on Friday June 21, 2019 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Boston Market is throwing a super fun sandwich throwdown and inviting everyone to pit their usual lunchtime sandwich from a competitor against a sandwich from their new menu. Simply bring your current favorite sandwich to a Boston Market location and enjoy one of their sandwiches on the house, so that you can taste the difference fresh, never frozen rotisserie chicken can make! Guests will then be invited to vote for the superior sandwich and throwdown winner via an online survey. Free sandwich upgrades will also be available while supplies last!
You guys can also use the promo code: 34350 for $3.00 off any sandwich, salad, or choose two purchases. Offer expires 6/30/19. You may also print this coupon to use towards your purchase. Enjoy!
3. Take Advantage of Free Activities and Low-Cost Camps
It might take some digging, but lots of communities offer free activities for little ones. Check your local libraries, bulletin boards in your town, and online to see what’s going on around you. I recently discovered that there is a story hour at a playground near us and that our local library offers stories and yoga for kids. These are great to take advantage of. Also keep an eye out for inexpensive camps. I’ve signed my kids up for a few VBS style camps this summer that are under $30 for the whole week. My kids love going and it keeps them from getting bored!
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Give Yourself a Break
I am 100% guilty of this, but finally learning how important it is to step away when I really need a break. If you have family or friends nearby or access to a great baby sitter, see if they can help you out here and there so you can get away, even if it’s only for a short time. Most of the time people are willing to help you get that much-needed breather, and you’ll come back feeling so refreshed!
5. Take Advantage of Grocery Delivery and Store Pick-Up Options
Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop, but shopping with four kids isn’t exactly enjoyable. I’ve learned that ordering groceries and essentials online for either delivery or for store pick-up (where you pull into a designated parking spot and the employees bring your order right to your car) is a total lifesaver!!!
6. When All Else Fails, Get In Your Car and Go
There have been a few days lately where my kids were tearing our house apart and climbing all over me, and I started to feel a little claustrophobic. You know what helped? I wrangled all of the kids into the car, strapped them in, put on some fun music and went for a drive! The kids loved jamming out and sightseeing, and I loved grabbing a drive-thru iced coffee and enjoying some personal space!
I hope this tips help you navigate your way through a summer with kids. Don’t forget to use the coupon from this post to try one of the new Boston Market lunch items!
