October is here, and that means that Halloween is fast approaching. We’ve started adding spooky touches all around the house… a bat here, a skeleton there, and even a few spiders that make me jump every time one catches my eye. My kids have been asking to watch all of our favorite festive movies, and we’ve even been hard at work planning our costumes. I love Halloween, because I feel like it is the unofficial kick-off to the holiday season, but this time of year can get a bit hectic. The 31st happens to fall on a weeknight again this year, which means that we’ll be trick-or-treating on a school night. It falling on a Wednesday will certainly add to the chaos, so I thought I’d share a few of the things that I do to make Halloween night a little easier on all of us.
Get to work on your costume well in advance
There is nothing worse than waiting until the last minute to put the final touches on your costume and not being able to find items that you need for it. To avoid a costume disaster, start working on your costume early. I would even recommend getting a jump start on it in September to ensure that you have everything that you need.
Prepare a quick and easy dinner
I don’t know about you guys, but pizza is a Halloween night tradition for us. The night is chaotic enough with the costumes, and the makeup, and getting out the door in time for trick-or-treating, that I don’t need to add the stress of preparing and cooking a big dinner to my plate as well! We love Red Baron pizza on nights like this, when I’ll be too busy painting lightening bolt scars on a certain six year old’s head, to be running around in the kitchen. My kid are big fans of their Classic Crust pizza because it’s not too thick, or too thin, and it has a crispy, airy, flaky crust. My husband I love the Red Baron Brick Oven pepperoni pizza, because it has a robust sauce and golden brown crust. For more than 40 years, Red Baron pizza has helped moms like me conquer mealtime chaos, and on a busy night like Halloween, I know I can count on pizza for the win!
Plan ahead
One thing I try really hard to do in preparation for Halloween night and the morning after when we have school is to have my kid’s pajamas and school clothes laid out in advance. That way, after we get home and sort our candy, we can get them bathed and into bed quickly, and let them sleep a little longer the next morning. The day after a holiday can be hard to recover from for all of us, so I’m all for anything that helps make our morning slightly easier.
