Between Lilah and Theo, I still have two kids in diapers right now. When I think about it, it’s actually a little crazy how much time I’ve spent changing diapers over the last several years. From rashes, to blowouts, to getting peed on, at this point I’ve pretty much seen it all. It might not be glamorous, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s that having a (well-equipped) designated diapering station is essential to making sure that things run smoothly on a daily basis.
You don’t need much to make this work for you, but I thought it might be helpful if I outlined all of the things that have worked for us to ensure that we have everything we need, right at our fingertips, when changing a diaper.
1. Designate your space(s)
Having a designated diapering area is important. We actually have two. One on each floor of our house. When we’re upstairs, Lilah’s nursery serves as the place where we change both her and Theo (although Theo rarely gets his diaper changed upstairs anymore). Downstairs we have set up a separate diapering space, since that’s where we spend the majority of our time. It just got too hard to run upstairs, and leave the other kids unsupervised downstairs, every time someone needed changed. Both spaces are equipped with the same essentials, and it’s been really helpful for us.
2. Grab a changing pad and some items to organize your essentials
I love using baskets, bins, and even carts to organize all of our diapering supplies. Your changing area doesn’t have to be super pretty, but I have a thing for keeping my stuff organized in a decorative way. It helps when everything has its place. Diapers and wipes should be stored together, as should ointments and lotions. I’ve also found that having a changing pad that is wipeable, or one with a washable cover is helpful too! Diaper changing can be messy business.
3. You’ll need a place to ditch those dirty diapers
Speaking of essentials, the Playtex®️ Diaper Genie®️ is totally one of them! We actually have two of the Diaper Genie Expressions®️, one for each floor/diaper station. I totally consider it an essential because it offers a convenient place to ditch the dirty diapers in the same area where I change my kids. I don’t need to make any unnecessary trips downstairs to the trash, or out to the garage, since the Playtex®️Diaper Genie®️ contains the smell of even the stinkiest diapers. Plus, they can hold up to 270 newborn diapers, which is a lot!
4. Stock your diaper station
Now that you have a designated area, and some places to store everything you’ll need, it’s time to stock your diaper station for success. I guess it goes without saying, that you’ll need lots of diapers! You’ll also need wipes, your favorite diaper creams, ointments and lotions, and Diaper Genie refills.
5. Set up a subscription so you never run out
In this day and age it’s easier, and usually less expensive to set up subscriptions for all of the items we regularly use in our home. I never want to find myself in a situation where we are fresh out of diapers and/or wipes, or Diaper Genie® refills, so these are things that I have set up subscriptions for through either Amazon or Target!
I hope these tips help you to create a well-equipped diapering area in your own home.

This is great advice even though my babies are grown. Everyone tried to tell me I didn’t need a Diaper Genie. However, I loved mine. It really was one of my essentials. I love how easy it is to use a short dresser with a changing pad to create a changing station that can double as a useful storage tool as the child gets older versus a “changing table.”

So helpful to have a standard monthly shipment set up for things like diapers and wipes. Luckily, my kiddos are out of the diaper stage, but we still need a shipment for pull-ups.

I definitely don’t miss the diaper changing days but I wish I would have had your tips when my kids were babies!

I love the idea of setting up a subscription. As a new mother, last thing we need to worry about is running out of diapers.

We have 2 kids still in diapers so our diaper stations are necessities!
