It feels like it’s been so long since I sat down in front of my computer to write a new blog post. I have missed this little creative space of mine, but I also know that Lilah’s sweet newborn days are flying by at warp speed, and along with trying to juggle my new life as a mom of four, I’m savoring every sweet moment of her snuggles and squishiness while I can. I suppose it goes without saying, that most of my time lately is spent nursing her, and ensuring that she is well fed and getting everything that she needs to grow and thrive. I have done this a few times now, so I’m no stranger to the engorged boobs, sore nipples, and unplanned leaks that come along with breastfeeding a baby during these early days. Since I’ve had a bit of experience in this department now, I thought I would share some of the items and products that I have come to love over the years as a nursing mama. Some of this stuff is new to me, but man do I wish it were around after I had my first babe!
Copper Pearl 5-in-1 Cover These nursing covers are genius, because not only do they work as a nursing cover, but they also operate as a car seat cover, a shopping cart cover, a high chair cover, and as a scarf. Plus, they are super soft and come in the best prints!
Booby Boons Lactation Cookies These lactation cookies are a recent find for me, but I love them! When I don’t have time to make my own, these are great for a sweet treat that will help keep your supply up!
Bamboobies Nursing Pads For the longest time I used disposable nursing pads to save myself from leaks. I still do on occasion, but to be honest, I feel like they’re kind of bulky and not very discreet. I decided to give this washable/reusable version a try this time around, and I so wish I made the switch sooner. These ones are way thinner and much more comfortable.
NatureBond Silicone Pump This manual breast pump might be the most genius invention ever, and I only just discovered it after having Lilah. Using only suction, you can place it on the side that you are not nursing on, and it collects the milk that would otherwise letdown and be wasted. I was seriously amazed by how much milk this thing caught. It also helps tremendously with engorgement, and can be used as an actual pump when you are somewhere where you can’t sit down with an electric pump.
Corkcicle Tumbler If I’ve learned anything over the past few years, it’s the importance of hydration (hello kidney stones!). I like to drink my water from a straw, which is why I like these tumblers… along with the fact that they keep my water ice cold for a very long time.
Dairy Fairy Ayla Nursing BraThis is hands down the most beautiful nursing bra that I have owned thus far, but above and beyond that, it’s super comfortable and supportive too. The Ayla Bra from The Dairy Fairy is both nursing and hands-free pumping friendly. I also have to give them kudos for their customer service. They really work with you to ensure that any bra that you order from them is going to fit. This bra also has an extended hook and eye closure for more adjustability than your typical nursing bra. They were also kind enough to provide a discount code for you guys to use. You can save 15% off any bra or tank with the code: Kozy
Nesting Olive House DressLadies, house dresses are making a comeback and I’m not mad about it. If you haven’t tried one yet, you have no idea what you’re missing! These dresses from Nesting Olive are insanely comfortable, and they’re both bump and nursing-friendly. I love to knot mine at the bottom, and the fact they have pockets is another added bonus. It’s like wearing a nightgown that’s acceptable in public. Huge win in my opinion! Save $5 off of your order with the code: kozy5off
Lansinoh Therapearl PadsIf you’ve ever experienced the pain that comes along with engorgement or after weaning a baby, then you know full well that putting something nice and cool or a warm compress on your girls is super soothing! I love to keep these pads on hand for both of those situations!
Lansinoh Soothies Gel Pads Another soothing product. I used these cooling pads while I was still in the hospital with Lilah. Those first few days of nursing can be pretty painful/uncomfortable when your nipples aren’t used to nursing that much. These helped a ton when mine felt like they were on fire!
Lansinoh Lanolin Cream I don’t think I need to go into detail about nipple cream. This is a must-have if you are a nursing mom. Bonus points for the fact that it works as a lip balm in a pinch. I keep a tube of this on my nightstand at all times!
Do you have a favorite nursing essential? I’d love to hear about it!
