If you’ve been around for awhile you may recall that last summer, when Theo was still itty bitty, I shared about an amazing infant car seat from CYBEX that exceeded all of our expectations in terms of car seat safety. Well, our little guy just turned two, and seeing as he has been riding around in his older brother’s seriously beat up convertible car seat, we decided it was time for an upgrade. Safety has always been of the utmost importance to us when researching car seats, and technology has changed a lot since we first started having kids almost six years ago. So, we were on the hunt for something with the kind of advanced safety technology that would ensure that one of our most prized possessions would be riding safely and comfortably every time we hit the road. When CYBEX approached me again to test drive and share about their Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 convertible car seat, I was eager to jump on board. Their car seats are seriously on another level.
The Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 is by far one of the most technologically advanced convertible car seats that I have seen on the market. It offers features that we didn’t even know existed, but that are total game changers in terms of car seat safety. Like what you ask?
Rear Facing Installation up to 40 pounds, Forward Facing Installation up to 65 pounds
Keeping your child in a rear-facing position for as long as possible is what’s recommended these days by the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics), and the Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 allows for rear facing installation for children from 5-40 pounds. This significantly reduces the risk of injury in the event of a head-on collision because it reduces the strain on child’s neck and head due to the impact. We will be keeping Theo rear facing for as long as possible for these reasons, but I love the fact that he will be able to comfortably ride in this seat until he reaches 65 pounds. My kids are tiny, so he’ll be using this car seat for a long time!
Linear Side-Impact Protection system (L.S.P.)
The CYBEX Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 features L.S.P. With just the touch of a button, this Linear Side-Impact Protection system can be adjusted on the side of the car seat closest to the door, and it can absorb up to 25% more impact in a collision from the side, in conjunction with the head and shoulder protectors. I’ve never seen this feature on any other car seats, and it’s so smart!
SensorSafe 2.0 Feature
By far the coolest feature that the Sirona M offers is the SensorSafe 2.0 technology that monitors the well being of your child while your car is in motion. The car seat comes with a small vehicle adapter that you can easily install in your car’s OBD2 port. Then you can simply download the app that works with this sensor and it will alert you, through both the vehicle receiver and your cell phone if your child unbuckles their seatbelt while the car is in motion, if the temperature in the backseat is too hot or too cold, or if you were to accidentally leave your child in the car. Since it is illegal in many states to use your cell phone while driving, it’s important to note that the app is not necessary to receive alerts. If you are driving versus being in the passenger seat, you can still receive alerts though your vehicle’s receiver. How cool is that?

Other features we love…
Aside from the awesome safety features that the Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 offers, it’s also super simple to install. The car seat can be secured in two ways, by either using the LATCH system or by using your car’s seatbelt. Most cars now offer the LATCH system, and if you are unfamiliar with this, it refers to the metal anchors that can be found at the base of your car’s seats, and where you can easily use the car seat’s clips to secure it. We prefer the LATCH system, so that’s how we installed our CYBEX car seat. A good rule to remember is that the seat should wiggle less than an inch if you try to move it side to side once it’s installed.
Another feature I love is the 12-position height adjustable headrest with no rethread harness. This headrest makes it easy to adjust the seat as your child grows without having to rethread he car seat straps, which in my opinion has always been a huge pain to do!
I also love how sleek the Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 is. The design is so modern… I know it’s silly to refer to a car seat as pretty, but this one really is!
If you are in the market for a convertible car seat, I can’t recommend this one enough. To read more about the amazing features that the CYBEX Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 has to offer, click HERE!
