It’s kind of funny how when you’re expecting your first baby, you are so on top of everything, and then by the time your fourth baby rolls around you find yourself scrambling to get it all done just before the baby arrives. With our sweet girl due any day now, I finally put all of the finishing touches on her nursery this past week, right in the nick of time. I am so excited to share this space with you all, because I have been dreaming about how this room would turn out for months now, and I’m so pleased with the final product. I’m hopeful that now that her room is complete, this baby girl will be gracing us with her presence earthside soon.
Let me give you a little background info on the room… When we bought this house last summer, we were thrilled to finally have a home with so much space. Our boys have been sharing a room since day one, and since this house has four bedrooms, we finally had a guest room to offer for when friends and family come to stay. When we found out that we were expecting again last fall, we didn’t want to lose that extra room. On top of that, the guest room is on the opposite side of the house from our master, so it wouldn’t have really been ideal to have the baby super far away from us at night. We contemplated having Ella and the baby share a room, but Ella is a light sleeper, and she has a bit of a sneaky side, so this idea made me a little nervous. As luck would have it, we had this really cool room off of our walk-in closet, that the previous owner had used as a dressing room. I originally intended to use this room as my office, but then one day my husband mentioned that it would be perfect for a nursery. This space is small you guys… as in 9’x7′ but I knew it was just enough room for all of the things you would want to have in a nursery, so I got to work on a design board.
I knew that I wanted the room to have a modern farmhouse vibe, with white walls, subtle pops of color and little feminine touches (without it being too girly). When I discovered the Abigail Crib, in Vintage Iron, from Million Dollar Baby Classic, it was love at first sight. I instantly knew that it would be the focal point of the nursery, and a piece that would really “make” the room. I had originally planned on doing a wallpapered accent wall behind the crib, but as soon as I saw the Abigail, I knew that the accent wall needed to be shiplap, so I put my husband to work. We painted both the walls and the shiplap in Alabaster by Sherwin Williams, a Joanna Gaines go-to, and I love how the white is a little on the softer side and not too stark.
I decided to keep the bedding simple, and went with this swiss dot crib sheet, paired with a tiered white dust ruffle (a hand-me-down from Ella’s nursery), so that I could have fun with decor pieces like pillows, dolls and accessories. H&M’s home line has a great selection of pillow covers that are super budget friendly, and that’s where I found the blush pink velvet pillow. The gray textured pillow was a Target Clearance find that I just had to have as soon as I saw it. The adorable knit doll is Avery the Lamb from Cuddle and Kind, a brand that I absolutely love. If you aren’t familiar with them, they are a family-owned company, and for every doll they sell they provide 10 meals to children in need.

To really optimize the small amount of space that we had to work with, I knew that I would have to get creative with storage. This wire hanging basket turned out to be the perfect spot to store all of those super cute baby shoes, and the hooks provide a great landing spot for all of my ring slings and wraps… a collection that will continue to grow for sure, seeing as baby wearing has become essential to my survival at this point. The wire basket on the floor is from the ever-popular Hearth & Hand Line, and I just love it for storing our favorite blankets from Saranoni Blankets (literally the softest things you will ever touch). It also became the home of Picchu the Alpaca, from Blabla Kids, another favorite brand of ours. They make the most gorgeous knit dolls and more.
Finding a great rocker for a small space proved to be tricky. I didn’t want it to overwhelm the small corner where it would sit, and also wanted to ensure that there would still be room to actually rock and put my feet up during those late night nursing sessions. This Kenwood Nursery Glider Swivel Rocker Chair from Delta Children is another of my favorite pieces in the room, and ended up being the perfect solution. It’s specifically designed for smaller spaces, but still maintains a great amount of comfort and style, which I wasn’t willing to sacrifice even though I was short on square footage. The glider comes in four gorgeous color options, but I just loved it in charcoal, and can’t wait to snuggle and rock our babe in it very soon.
The gorgeous knit heart pillow that you see in the chair is also from Blabla Kids, and I’m totally obsessed with it. The blush pink ottoman was just the right size and color for this nursery, so I scooped that up as soon as I saw it.
I can’t forget about the area rug… the one item that ties everything together. It actually isn’t the original rug that I thought I wanted. That one ended up being backordered, which led me to continue my search and to finding this rug from Rugs USA. I’m so happy that it worked out this way. This rug is a bit more colorful, and that allowed me to use more accent colors throughout the room.
I tried to create a little diaper changing area, if you will, over by the dresser. I put to work a utility cart to store all of the items that I would need for that and more, along with a Diaper Genie to keep the nursery from ever getting stinky.
These wooden floating shelves added a rustic touch to the room, and gave me the space to add a few sweet decorative touches. I also knew that I wanted to not only store this baby’s bow collection, but also display it, so these wrought iron hooks made for the perfect place to do that!
Like I said before, now that this room is finally finished, I hope our girl will take it as a sign that we are indeed ready for her!!!
