I’m not sure what the appropriate age is to stop using a monitor in your kid’s rooms, but I can honestly admit that we still use them in our 3.5 year old’s and 22 month old’s bedrooms. There’s just something about checking in on them, and being able to make sure that they are sleeping soundly, rather than up to no good, that I find comforting. Since things have changed a bit since we first registered for a baby monitor over five years ago, and technology has come a long way, we have been on the hunt for a new monitor to use when baby number four arrives this spring. This time around, we are giving the Summer Infant Baby Pixel 5.0″ Color Video Monitor a whirl, and since our youngest has made several attempts to escape his crib lately, we figured he was the perfect candidate to test out all of it’s features on.
One of my favorite features of the Baby Pixel, particularly since Theo has become an expert climber, is that it comes equipped with a Sleepzone Virtual Boundary Feature that senses your child’s movement and will alert you when the safety boundary is breached. Once this boundary is set, the monitor beeps to let you know if your baby has moved outside of it, which is awesome for a busy mom like me, who can’t have her eyes on the monitor at all times. Now if Theo tries to climb out, I know!
Another really cool feature on the Summer Infant Baby Pixel, is that it has a Moonlight Night Vision Boost that will provide a full color view of your baby in the dark. The picture on this monitor is super clear whether it’s day or night, which is a huge step up from our old black and white monitor with a grainy view! The Baby Pixel is a touch-screen monitor, and it also offers 360 tilt camera steering, which is really great, since our boy’s share a room, so it allows us to also take a peek at our oldest if the need ever arises. Some other features are the talk-back capability (so I can let Theo know that I’m watching him if I catch him trying to climb out), and a temperature and time display. I don’t know why, but I really like the ability to see what the temperature is in my kid’s rooms!
This monitor can me set up on a flat surface, or mounted to a wall, and even comes with brackets to help secure the cord and keep it well out of the reach of your child. Our old monitor did not come with anything like this, so it’s another feature that I appreciate. The Summer Infant Baby Pixel 5.0″ Touch Screen Monitor offers the ability to operate more than one camera too, and I’m pretty sure we’ll be adding one more, so that I can keep this one in Theo’s room to keep an eye on him, and have one for the new baby too.
It’s so nice having a monitor with great features that actually allow me to relax while my kid’s are napping, because I know that I will be alerted if there is an issue. It offers me comfort and peace of mind, which make it an essential item for us!

This sounds like a great video monitor! We used one with our oldest, but haven’t with our youngest.

This looks like a great tool to help with the little ones and easily grows with them from infancy and beyond. Always great to have a piece of mind. And thanks for the chance to win one for myself!

I really appreciate your recommendation. We haven’t had the need for a monitor yet, but will keep this in mind for when we do.

This is great! Anything that allows you to rest is a winner in my books.

This is super cool! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard weird noises on the audio monitor to run in and the dog had gotten trapped in the kids rooms. This would be such a stress reliever
