A big thanks to PlaytexBaby™ for sponsoring this post, and for making diaper changes in our house less stinky!
Over the course of the last few years, I have changed a whole lot of diapers. Math is not my strongest subject, but if I had to guess, I would imagine that with three kids, the number of diapers that I have messed with (pun totally intended), is somewhere in the thousands. By now, I have weathered blowouts of epic proportions, the diligent job of potty training (twice), and totally mastered the art of changing a diaper in the back of a minivan. It’s not the most glamorous part of being a parent, but it comes with the territory, so I’ve learned to try and make the best of it.
Seeing as I’ve had so much experience in this area, I thought it was time that I share some of my “diapering favorites”, essentially the items that I rely on #ForBetterBeginnings when it comes to making anything diaper related easier and more efficient!
A brand of diapers that you love– There are so many great diaper options out there these days. Whether you wish to use disposable diapers or cloth, it can be hard to choose which brand to go with. Do your research, talk to other moms whose opinions you trust, and if necessary, use the trial and error method until you find something that you and your baby both love.
Disposable diaper bags– If you have ever had to change a stinky diaper, you know that these are an essential, especially when you’re on the go. I always carry a roll of these in my diaper bag, in the off chance that I need to wrap up a diaper until I can properly dispose of it (gross I know, but totally part of being a parent!).
A Playtex® Diaper Genie Expressions™– I have to be totally honest with you guys on this one. We did not register for a Playtex® Diaper Genie® from the beginning. Before I actually had kids, I thought I would be different, and try something new. So, I went with a less well-known brand, and you know what happened? It didn’t contain smells at all, and it ended up breaking on us. We later replaced it with a Playtex® Diaper Genie Expressions™, and instantly questioned why we hadn’t just gone with the Diaper Genie® from the very beginning. Not only does it keep the yucky diaper odors at bay, thanks to its Push-N-Lock clamp and refills that feature seven layers, but I love that with the Expressions™ you have the option of choosing from 5 decorative fabric sleeves to match your nursery decor. It’s super to easy to use and holds a ton of diapers!
A changing pad and cover– This one is kind of a no-brainer, but having a comfortable place to change your babe is definitely essential. Plus you can find SO many cute covers for your changing pad these days. I love searching Etsy for handmade shops that make covers to suit every taste and nursery style.
Hand sanitizer– Both a travel size, and a pump on our changing table are musts for me!
Barrier cream and diaper ointment– We’ve been really lucky when it comes to diaper rashes, and only had a few over the past five years. I’d like to think that it’s because I have regularly slathered my kid’s bottoms with a barrier cream. However, I will say that in the off chance that a diaper rash might pop up, I like to be prepared, so I always keep a good diaper ointment on hand!
A great diaper bag– I’ve found, that not only is it fun to carry diaper bag that looks great, but it’s essential to have one that really caters to making diaper changing on-the-go easier. Important things to look for are an easily-accessible and cushy changing pad, and one with large compartments for keeping everything you need to carry organized. Keep in mind that you’ll need space for diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, ointment, and those disposable bags!
Whether you’re a new mom or a seasoned mom, it’s important that as #PlaytexMoms we stick together… what are your favorite diapering tricks, essentials, or hacks?

We didn’t register for one either but eventually my husband couldn’t take it anymore and went out and bought one 😂 The changing pad cover is a great idea. We always had spares but eventually I got tired of replacing them after accidents and decided to leave it off. Well my mom found one in my son’s drawer this weekend and put it on. He now rubs his head against the soft cover and loves it 😂😂😂

It’s so funny this was your experience! We had the same thing, and I remember a mom with kids telling me I would need me and I sort of scoffed. Two weeks in, I was running to Target to get a diaper genie to mask the stank!

You nailed it! Its funny because so many people say that a diaper genie is not necessary and I always look at them and wonder how their house smells. LOL

Those essentials are exactly what I would pick to! I love fun diapers. And yes, a diaper pail is a MUST for keeping smells at bay!!
