If you know me at all, you know that my love for coffee runs deep. I have a several-cups-a-day habit that starts from the minute I wake up, and continues throughout the day. On occasion, I’ve been known to indulge in a few glasses of red wine as well, and I have to be honest… all of this was wreaking havoc on my teeth. Oral hygiene is really important to me. I didn’t have my first cavity until I was thirty years old, and I’m still blaming that one on my pregnancies. I brush twice a day (sometimes more), floss regularly, and use mouthwash, yet despite it all, my teeth weren’t looking quite as clean and white as I wanted them to. I’ve used lots of whitening toothpastes and rinses throughout the years, but I’ve seen minimal results. I even contemplated having my teeth whitened professionally by my dentist, but seeing as it’s become a total rarity for me to get out and do things for myself, and the fact that they charge a pretty penny, I kept putting it off… Until I discovered Smile Brilliant.
One of my biggest goals in the new year was to start taking better care of myself. As moms, we always seem to put our own care on the back burner, but I firmly believe that when you take care of yourself, you can better care for others. So, since January first, I’ve been eating healthier, making an effort to be more active, and I’m really working on doing things that make me feel good physically. Since whiter teeth had been on my wish list for awhile, I couldn’t say no when Smile Brilliant reached out and asked me to try one of their home teeth whitening kits. For someone who can barely make it out of the house for a hair cut or a manicure, whitening my teeth in the comfort of my own home was right up my ally!
When my kit arrived, I was super excited to get started, and thankfully, it couldn’t have been easier. First you create impressions of both your top and bottom teeth, using the base and catalyst pastes that come in your box. They provide simple instructions on how to do this, and even include backup pastes incase something goes wrong with your first impressions. Then you place your molds in the envelope that comes with your kit and ship it out in the mail. You don’t even have to worry about paying for the shipping, because Smile Brilliant has that covered. About a week or so later, your custom fitted whitening trays arrive back in your mailbox, and your ready to begin whitening.
I chose to use my Smile Brilliant kit at night, before bed, so that I could achieve the best possible results. They recommend that you do your whitening at a time when you know that you won’t be eating or drinking for a bit, so this time of day was best for me. I brushed my teeth with water only (no toothpaste), and then using the syringe filled with the whitening gel, I squeezed a small amount into both my top and bottom trays. I chose to whiten for 30-45 minutes each time, but you could certainly do it for a longer time period. The trays fit my mouth perfectly, and were actually pretty comfortable. I didn’t experience any discomfort or sensitivity issues at all (however I should note that they offer suggestions for people with sensitive teeth and gums), and for the most part just relaxed and binge watched something on Netflix while whitening my teeth. Smile Brilliant also includes a desensitizing gel in the kit, which I would use for about 15 minutes after I whitened, so essentially I dedicated 45 minutes to an hour for each application.
After 8 whitening sessions, here are my results! I have to say that I am really impressed with the improvement. I could see a significant difference after just a few uses, but it was’t until a saw my before and after photos side by side that I realized how much whiter my teeth really were. For me, this was a huge win. Smile Brilliant provided me with an easy and effective way to achieve professional whitening results at home, and for a busy mom of three, that means a lot. I think I will continue to use the kit a few more times, but I’m pretty happy with the improvements that I have seen already.

Whoa! Those are some amazing results! I need some whitening, coffee addiction problems (sigh). Thankfully I never had a cavity, don’t know how that happened, have a dentist appointment, so fingers crossed I don’t break the record (nervous giggles).
