Peanut butter & Jelly is a HUGE favorite around here. As in, when I ask my kids what they would like to eat, the reply is almost always (in unison) “PB&J”. These days, we’re pretty busy, and generally always on the go, so the simplicity of throwing together some good old fashioned PB&J sandwiches is just as appealing to me as it is to my kids. I have to admit, that I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy them just as much as they do. Kid at heart over here. I honestly can’t even remember a time when there wasn’t a jar of Jif Creamy Peanut Butter and Smucker’s Strawberry Jam in our house, which makes it a super convenient meal option. Plus, if you know me at all, you know that I’m at Target no less than three times a week, so I make it a point to ensure that we are always stocked with the essentials… while I nonchalantly fill our cart with lots of non-essential items, because, come on, it’s Target!
Recently, I began thinking about some new and exciting ways to incorporate our favorite flavor combination into the mealtime rotation. The prerequisites? It had to be quick and easy to prepare, include healthy ingredients, and of course, it had to be delicious. Then it hit me… Peanut Butter & Jelly Smoothie Bowls! Over the course of the last year, smoothie bowls have become a staple in our house. It doesn’t get any easier than throwing a bunch of ingredients into a blender and pressing a button, plus they are great way to sneak some really nutritious foods into your kid’s diets. This recipe combines frozen fruit, yogurt for protein, and the heartiness of rolled oats with everyone’s favorite PB&J flavor.
- 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk (or regular milk)
- 1/4 cup vanilla flavored greek yogurt
- 1/4 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 2 Tbs rolled oats
- 1 Tbs Jif Creamy Peanut Butter
- 1 tsp Smucker's Strawberry Jam
- 1 tsp Smucker's Strawberry Jelly
- 1 Tbs chopped peanuts
- 1. Combine all ingredients in a blender, and blend until combined and smooth.
- 2. Pour into a bowl (or 2 small bowls for kids)
- 3. Using a spoon swirl strawberry jelly into smoothie and top with nuts to garnish.
Do your kids love PB&J as much as mine do?
