I don’t know about you, but back to school time always makes me think about school supplies. As a kid, I used to love preparing for school by shopping for fun folders, notebooks, and of course, crayons and markers. Art was always one of my favorite subjects, and even now as an adult, I still enjoy sitting down with my kids, opening up a fresh box of Crayola crayons, and getting down and dirty with some good old fashioned coloring!
Of course, now that I’m a parent, there are so many other things to think about in terms of getting ready to head back to school… like quick and easy breakfasts that will fuel my kid’s minds and bodies, but still get us out the door in a timely fashion. That’s why around here, we’re big fans of Eggo® products, because they are such a quick and easy breakfast solution, and because I can stock up and keep them on hand in our freezer for all of those hectic mornings that I know are headed my way this fall.
We always buy a few packages of Eggo® waffles and pancakes in the freezer section when we are at Target (which is all the time), along with some of our favorite Crayola products, like their washable crayons and markers. From now until September 30th, if you buy any 3 participating Eggo® products with Crayola packaging (like the boxes pictured in this post), you get $5 off of Crayola products… this is such a great deal if you use both like we do, and it’s available in all stores, not just Target! Keep an eye out for more information on Target’s promotion of these items in their circular, the first week of September.
If your kids happen to be picky eaters like mine are, sometimes you have to get a little creative with food, and make it fun so that they want to eat it. Thankfully this is super simple with Eggo®. I started using their waffles and pancakes plus some fun toppings like fruit and chocolate chips to turn our breakfast into art. I have created flowers, fish, owls, bear faces, all kinds of exciting stuff. My kids love it and get totally excited to see what I come up with, and it’s a win for me because they actually eat what I put in front of them.
My latest creation, Dino Waffles, was inspired by my dinosaur-loving four year old. Here’s what you need to make your very own waffle dinosaur…
Dino Waffles
Ingredients
2 Eggo® Waffles
1 Banana
1 Apple
1 Large Marshmallow
1 Chocolate Chip
Mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Toast your waffles according to the directions on the box.
- Place on waffle on a plate. Cut a small portion of of 2 sides, making them straight edges, reserve one piece for the tail. Then cut a small “V” in one of the rounded sides to make the mouth.
- Place the large piece of waffle with the 2 straight sides to one side of the whole waffle for the head, and place the reserved piece on the other side (as pictured), to create tail
- Slice the banana, and top one slice with a chocolate chip to make the eye.
- Cut a marshmallow in half lengthwise to create legs.
- Place mini marshmallows in the mouth for teeth.
- Cut apple into slices, and then into small triangles to use along the back and tail.
Before you head off to make a Dino Waffle creation of your own, head on over and download your own activity book from Eggo and Crayola, so that your kids can feel free to play, color, and get creative, while they wait for the super fun breakfast you are creating to fuel their minds for the day ahead!
