It’s that time of year… summertime, when the temps are so high, the mere thought of turning on your blow dryer is painful, and the humidity makes even Texas size hair seem small.
If you have curly locks like I do, this time of year can make for some less-than-great hair days. In all honesty, I prefer to blow my hair out, and then curl it with a large barrel curling iron… skipping a few days between shampooing. However time (hello, 3 kids!), and the weather, don’t always allow for that method, so I have come up with a no-muss, no-fuss routine that says “the heck with it”, and allows me to rock those ringlets… and I’m not talking about “The Plop” (although I am totally intrigued by it)!
Let’s start in the shower…
I have long been a fan of Pureology’s Hydrate line (and this is the cheapest I have seen the set), but if you have a shampoo and conditioner that you prefer, feel free to stick with them. I will note that moisture is key when you are hoping to reduce frizz.
I don’t like to wash my hair everyday… I aim for every other, and sometimes even longer between shampooing. if you must get your hair wet, I recommend only applying conditioner to the ends and skipping shampoo, your scalp’s natural oils are a good thing.
Once I get out of the shower, I lightly towel dry… being careful nut to rub my hair dry, as this adds frizz.
I then spritz Shea Moisture Hold & Shine Moisture Mist all over. After that, I mix a quarter sized dollop of Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding with 1-2 drops of argan oil (you may need to adjust this amount based on the length and thickness of your own hair), and I apply it liberally from roots to ends.
THEN, I use my Wet Brush (or a wide tooth comb) to detangle and evenly distribute the product. After that I scrunch a little, and twist a few one inch sections away from my face.
Now, you can either allow your hair to air dry this way, or you can use a diffuser to speed up the process. Either way, try not to touch your hair a lot, as this also leads to frizz.
Once my hair is 100% dry, I occasionally use a curling wand to touch up and shape some curls, but other than that, that’s it!
If you have curly hair, what are your favorite products?
